MGIMO hosts meeting of international youth delegates

A group of young delegates from around the world arrived at Moscow State Institute for International Relations on Wednesday to participate in cooperative discussions.

The MGIMO meeting was organized as part of the New Generation program, which was implemented in 2013 by the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad and the International Humanitarian Cooperation under the decree of Vladimir Putin. New Generation seeks to develop professional relationships between Russia and other countries in the areas of public policy, business and science.

The inaugural New Generation meeting last year was predominately attended by university students from CIS and BRICS countries. This year's session drew young professionals from Germany, Denmark, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Finland, Sweden and Estonia.

The 2014 New Generation program began with opening remarks by MGIMO vice-rector I. Loginov ,who spoke on the history of MGIMO and its pedagogical philosophies. He was followed by MGIMO Head of Education S. Surovtsev, who discussed the university's extracurricular offerings for students.

Over the course of the day, attendees participated in three seminars-- The Cooperation of Youth Organizations, Information Support and Youth Participation in Decision-Making. New this year was a cultural component featuring visits the Moscow State Academic Theatre of Operetta, Armory and the Kremlin's Cathedral of Moscow.
