Andrei Kozitsin, a supervisory board member at Ural Federal University and the CEO of United Mining and Metallurgical Company, was presented with Austria's highest award last week by Austrian President Heinz Fischer.
Kozitsin received the "Big Golden Order of Merit of the Austrian Republic," the country's highest award, in a ceremony in Vienna. The UrFU board member was selected for the award for his work with the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Austria in Yekaterinburg, which oversees a number of humanitarian projects aimed at improving the lives of the citizens of the Urals, regardless of nationality.
"I see this award [as] evidence that the friendly relations between our countries are developing and strengthening," Kozitsin said during his acceptance speech. "I hope that over the years the Honorary Consulate of the Urals and inhabitants of the region are able to explore the beautiful country of Austria and join its rich culture."
Kozitsin became an electrical technician at Uralelectromed--the parent company of UMMC--in 1979, and in 1993, he became a faculty member in the metallurgy department at UrFU, formerly Ural Federal Technical University.
From 1995 to 2002, he served as director of general works, and in 1999, he became the director of UMMC. Since 2002, he has served as the general director of UMMC Holding.
