UrFU students presented with Sverdlovsk Governer's Awards

Deputy Minister of Industry and Science Sergei Sarapulov came to Ural Federal University last Wednesday to distribute Sverdlovsk Governor's Awards to 23 student scientists.

The Governor's Awards were given to young researchers for having authored or co-authored a research or development project in the field of mechanics, engineering, computer science, telecommunications, energy electro-physics, inorganic and organic chemistry, nature conservation and earth sciences. Awards were also given for work in the humanities, physiology and medicine.

Among the 23 award winners, 11 were women. Each winner received a certificate and a cash prize of $5,700 to continue their research.

During the award ceremony, UrFU scientists heard a lecture from winners of the the Demidov Prize-- the highest governmental research award in Russia.

Winners of the Governor's Award were also asked to participate in the Feb. 8 celebration of Science Day at the Russian Academy of Sciences in honor of the academy's 290th anniversary.
