German consulate partners with museums to open exhibit on historical role of Russian monarchy in cinema

The German consulate in Yekaterinburg recently partnered with the State Museum, the State Central Museum of Cinema and Potsdam, Germany's Film Museum to open XVIII Century on the Screen: Catherine II and Frederick II, an exhibit depicting the Russian royals' role in cinema throughout history.

The exhibit, which is scheduled to close in November, highlights the manner in which the Russian Empress and the Prussian King have been represented in Russian, German, American, British and Japanese cinema.

With more than 900 points of interest, the exhibit contains film stills, production photographs and other media. Visitors can also participate in an interactive performance involving the filmmaking process.

Other features of the exhibit include concerts and readings, as well as a display of props, sets and costumes used to make films about Catherine II and Frederick II.

Moscow's Department of Culture provided financial support, along with German's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
