Yekaterinburg's Aida shopping center causes major traffic concerns

Motorists in Yekaterinburg have begun filing several complaints to area officials regarding traffic safety near the city's new Aida shopping mall.

Located at the intersection of Ural and Blucher streets, Aida shopping center only offers one exit route, resulting in increased traffic congestion and collisions in the surrounding areas, according to Mir66.

Residents affected by the traffic problem said that traffic often comes to a complete stop during peak commuting hours. To some in Yekaterinburg, the cross-street near the mall's exit is viewed as one of the most dangerous intersections in the city.

While the shopping center offers motorists a two-story parking garage, many shoppers are unwilling to contend with the heavy traffic around Aida and choose to simply park their cars on nearby streets. The resulting constriction of the roadway is another source of concern for Yekaterinburg residents.

Many in Yekaterinburg suggest that streets near the shopping center be extended to alleviate the congestion. Others hope that a second vehicle entrance and exit be constructed, Mir66 reports.
