India tech firms agree to form Skolkovo IT cluster

Several tech firms from India reportedly have agreed on Thursday to form a new IT cluster at Skolkovo Innovation Center.

Officials from the the Skolkovo Foundation and Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC) of India signed the agreement in New Delhi at the IndiaSoft conference, a report said.

The agreement is expected to encourage investment from Indian IT firms in Russian industry, especially the IT cluster.

“Being the key innovative hub in Russia, Skolkovo welcomes Indian high-tech companies to use Skolkovo as an entry point to the Russian market,” Igor Bogachev, Skolkovo Foundation vice president and executive director of the IT cluster, said. “For making entry smoother, we have launched a specific Soft Landing initiative.”

The Soft Landing initiative makes it easier for investors outside of Russia to do business within the country, encouraging international relations. The initiative, operated by Skolkovo, simplifies customs supports, visa regulations and special tax rates to simplify the international business process.

The Indian IT companies will occupy an office area spreading over nearly 1,000 acres on the west side of Moscow. Industry leaders in India see this as an opportunity to benefit from the Skolkovo ecosystem while learning from one another’s expertise.

Russian officials, in turn, have agreed to invest in the Digital India drive, a project under the oversight of the Indian prime minister, Narendra Modi.

“I am sure that increasing business contacts between the Indian and Russian IT companies will result in mutually beneficial enterprises and highly innovative solutions,” Bogachev said.
