Young scientist wins prestigious award

Ural State Mining University professor Konstantin Kokarev has recently been awarded the 2014 Young Scientist of Sverdlovsk prize presented by the governor of the Sverdlovsk region.

An associate professor in the department of mining, Kokarev’s latest innovation is a new underground mining technique. His method will cost 10 times less than the traditional method.

Twenty scientists under age 35 were nominated for the award. The governor sought to recognize the best scientists involved in earth science, choosing Kokarev for his work. Overall, 22 scientists were awarded for their work in the region in 2014.

Sverdlovsk region Minister of Industry Andrey Misura presented Kokarev's award at the ceremony.
