Skolkovo recently announced the pitch session winners of the 2015 Russian Startup Tour of the Rostov-on-Don region.
Over 100 projects entered into the Startup Village this past week were divided into four categories: efficient energy, industrial technology, robotics and biomedical.
Olga Vorontsova won first place in the IT category for her adaptive playing complex.
Svetlana Panina won third place in the biomedical category by developing a design that will diagnose degenerative joint diseases. She said she didn’t come to the event to win, but simply to practice pitching and to learn from expert evaluations. She was invited to visit Startup Village for the grand finale, which will exhibit all of Russia’s top innovations.
“This event has seriously exceeded my expectations,” Igor Fyodorov, second-place winner for his transport logistics system in the industrial category, said. “I was at the last event in Taganrog (in 2014). This year they’ve taken it up a notch. The feedback and reaction of the panel is simply more realistic, targeted and relevant to the particular projects. Here I have found people who actually understand me.”
Among the 13 winning entries was a project to develop adaptive toys for rehabilitation. A robotic surgical assistant was also presented.
Participants said they appreciated the opportunity to learn from leaders in their various industries, as the Russian Startup Tour provides mentorship and training programs for regional startup businesses. The tour has left Rostov and is on its way to Tomsk, Siberia, for a session next Wednesday and Thursday.
