Koltsovo Airport, media minister plan mail logistics center

Koltsovo Airport officials and Nikolai Nikiforov, minister of communications and mass communications, hammered out details Tuesday on a planned international postal exchange and logistics center for mail in Yekaterinburg.

The idea was originally proposed at the International Investment Forum in September in Sochi. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2015 and end in 2017. Yekaterinburg LPC regional officials already have designated a specific area near the Koltsovo Airport for the mail project.

The mail project requires that the mail system have a new logistics strategy to bring productivity to an advanced level.

The new system will include a center for hybrid print, international postal exchange, automated sorting and a post office.

Experts estimate that the mail center will process over 1 million pieces of mail each day.

Implementing the project will require the equivalent of approximately $26 million.

The mail system will help not only the Sverdlovsk region, but also all of Russia. The mail route will directly service four regions: Chelyabinsk, Kurgan, Sverdlovsk, and Tyumen.
