Russian-Japanese conference discusses future energy cooperation

Representatives from Russia and Japan met Monday at MGIMO to discuss future cooperation between the countries to further develop their energy technology.

The main goals of the meeting were to discuss developments in Russian-Japanese cooperation concerning energy.

Representatives discussed their major energy projects and how the geopolitical situation may affect their innovations.

The meeting helped the two countries further their beneficial cooperations. The initiatives will encourage stability in partnerships and security in the region surrounding the Asia-Pacific.

Experts continue to anticipate the positives that will come from future, similar international discussions.

Those attending the meeting included representatives from the Japanese Embassy, the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Energy and the largest companies from Russia and Japan including Gazprom, Lukoil, EN + Group, Rosneft, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Nikki, Toyota Motor Corp., Mitsubishi Chemical Corp.

“We see significant potential in the development of Russian-Japanese energy cooperation and that the difficult situation in the world does not stop our country on the path to a constructive dialogue and the development of business relations,” Director of the International Institute of Energy Policy and Diplomacy Valery Salygin said. “I am confident that this conference will make a real contribution to the effectiveness of the Russian-Japanese cooperation in the energy sector in the implementation of major energy projects, development of the dialogue of official departments, business and academia.”

The International Institute of Energy Policy and Diplomacy and the Institute of Energy Economics of Japan organized the event.
