New head of Ural Muslims elected

The Regional Congress of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Sverdlovsk Region (RDUMSO) elected Radifullu Hazrat as the new head of the Ural Muslims on Wednesday.

A graduate of the Russian Islamic University in Kazan, Hazrat teaches theology at Ural State Mining University. His classes include Tatar language, Qur’anic and Hadith, among other topics.

Hazrat’s new official title as the head of the Ural Muslims is chief imam-Akhund.

The previous chairman of RDUMSO, Ravil Mamleyev, resigned earlier this year.

Members of the RDUMSO visited Sheikh-ul-Islam Talgat Tajuddin Safa, the Grand Mufti of Russia. The Sheikh-ul-Islam was the one to propose a Decree of the Supreme Mufti to nominate a new chairman.

RDUMSO was originally formed in 1994. The group includes 24 Muslim organizations from Sverdlovsk’s northern and central regions. Since 2011, RDUMSO has been involved in Ural State Mining University’s Islamic theology undergraduate program.
