Alexander Borodich is Business Angel of the Year

Alexander Borodich has been named Russia's Business Angel of the Year.

The country's National Association of Business Angels presented the award to Borodich during its annual meeting on Tuesday.

Borodich is one of the Russian Federation’s most active entrepreneurs and a founding father of the Closed Business Angels Club.

He led Acronis, a provider of software for international businesses, in the United States from 2005 to 2009 before being named marketing director at Group. He currently is the CEO at

“History has shown many times that in times of crisis companies can develop even quicker than in calm or slow growth,” Borodich said. “Now investors are investing their ruble liquidity even more actively in startup projects, so it’s easier than ever to raise investment.”

Seven awards were handed out during Tuesday's meeting at the Skolkovo Hypercube. Among the award winners were the Russian Fund for the Development of Internet Initiatives, which received the Best Business Organization award; Panorics, which earned the Best Syndicated Deal award; and private investor Yevgeny Medvedev for Exit of the Year.

“The Skolkovo Investment Service has an interest in making sure that all initiatives linked to creating a community of business angels in Russia are supported,” Evgeny Taubkin, founder of the Skolkovo Business Angles Club and head of Skolkovo’s Invest Service, said. “And this time, we are very happy to support this important year-ending NABA event here at the (Skolkovo) Innovation Center.”
