A recent poll of Russian citizens found that the majority approved of the official emblem for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the country.
The Local Organizing Committee commissioned the Russian Public Opinion Research Centre to survey Russian citizens about the emblem during the month of November.
The poll included 1,600 citizens from 130 different cities and towns throughout the Russian Federation. Of those polled, 65 percent approved of the logo, which was unveiled on Oct. 28.
Poll results also found that 71 percent of the voters liked the emblem’s connection to football, the World Cup Trophy and the players; and 68 percent of the voters were fond of the emotional, lively attitude shown in the design’s ethos.
Another 68 percent of the voters commented on the design’s colors (gold, red and blue) connecting with Russia’s history.
The design includes details from Russia’s heritage, such as Russian ballet, the troika, the cosmos and fairytale imagery.
Younger voters were especially excited about the new emblem. Russians between the ages of 18 and 24 made up 74 percent of the approval votes.
