Sverdlovsk regional Prime Minister Denis Pasler and other government officials met with Hubert Birch, head of Austria's Birch Co., on Tuesday to discuss plans to build a cheese factory in Irbit.
Palser said construction of a new plant is scheduled to be completed by next March, with further building to be done before production begins in 2016.
“The regional government and I have already received specific instructions on the operation,” he said. “We have been working since 2012 on the development of raw materials for the production of dairy products, and today we are ready to create a large-scale production of the Sverdlovsk region cheeses.”
Birch said several factors came into consideration when choosing Irbit as the location for Birch Co.’s next plant, including good working relationships with the local government and an abundance of local resources.
“Once we started working with Irbitsky dairies, the project was inspired,” he said. “They have a great store of knowledge and what they aspire to. I am confident that this project could lead to the enrichment of the region as a whole. It can be an important factor in the development of (the) region.”
The parties agreed to meet again in January to discuss more details of the project.
