New street to be built for December folk art festival

The Government of Sverdlovsk recently approved a proposal from Ural artists requesting that a new street be built for the upcoming folk art exhibit, which runs Dec. 17-21 in Yekaterinburg.

The overall theme of the festival ties tourism with folk art, the latter of which is created by local Ural artists; 12 of the artists in attendance have been certified by the Sverdlovsk Regional Art Expert Council.

The exhibition will open officially on Dec. 18 with a performance by the Ural Folk Choir’s soloists. On Dec. 19, artists and visitors will celebrate with classes at which participants can try their hands at Tagil lacquer painting and pottery.

The gallery will showcase many folk craft traditions specific to the Sverdlovsk region, such as Tagil Tray, Porcelain Syserti, Tavolozhskaya ceramics, the Turin souvenir, and other small businesses and unique arts.

In honor of the festival, the new street will be solely dedicated to street artists and traditional Ural artists.

The organizers would like to remind participants that President Vladimir Putin has encouraged all of Russia to support its traditional folk arts and crafts to help preserve Russia’s heritage.
