UrFU students win Yekaterinburg Thai boxing competition

The Thai boxing team from Ural Federal University (UrFU) earned first place recently at Yekaterinburg’s citywide Thai boxing competition.

Mikahil Ivanov, Ildar Safin, Ruslan Durdyyev, and Kate Alassane finished first in their respective weight categories. Alexander Baklanov Gilev and Stanislav took third place at the competition.

The Thai boxing competition was geared towards high-school students from the Yekaterinburg area.

According to UrFU coach Ilya Modvinians, the Thai Boxing Club at the university is run by highly qualified coaches. The club also has access to the best Thai boxing equipment in Yekaterinburg, making it the best-prepared team for the contest.

Additionally, UrFU hosted an event in the spring with Master Ou, a renowned Thai boxer. He spoke about the history of Thai boxing traditions called Muay Thai and how they transitioned into the modern sport.

Ou also advised students on how to maintain their physical health for the sport. He then demonstrated Thai boxing techniques for self-defense.
