Sverdlovsk train collision causes derailment, no injuries

More than 200 passengers escaped injury after their Moscow-bound locomotive collided with a freight train at the Subic Bypass Station in the Sverdlovsk region on Wednesday.

RIA Novosti reports that although no injuries initially were reported after the No. 99 Vladivostok-Moscow passenger train collided with the freight train, all 280 passengers and the engineers from both trains will be taken to Perm for further examination.

As a result of the collision, which derailed the passenger train and two mail cars, a detour has been set up that will cause delays on train schedules by at least eight hours for the rest of the day. Service is expected to return to full working order by the end of the day.

A commission has been set up by Sverdlovsk Railway to investigate the accident and to improve measures in order to avoid future collisions.

The company also announced that those affected by the collision and resulting delays will receive a full refund for their tickets.
