Russia, Ukraine, EU reach gas supply agreement

Russia, Ukraine and the European Union recently signed an agreement concerning Russia's gas supplies for the winter of 2014-2015.

RIA “Novosit” reports that the agreement, which was negotiated and signed in Brussels, should end any further debate about the issue until March 2015.

Despite recent tension in Russia and Ukraine’s relationship, the agreement may positively impact the nations’ interactions. It is mutually beneficial for all the nations involved.

"The parties undertake to fully comply with the terms of the agreement,” Jose Manuel Barroso, the head of the European Commission, said. “No interruption of gas supplies will not win. It is necessary to respect the interests of the parties.”

Oblastnaya Gazeta reported Russian Federation representatives included Energy Minister Alexander Novak and Alexey Miller, CEO of Gazprom. Günther Oettinger, vice-president of the European Commission, was one of the European Union representatives. Ukrainian representatives included Yuriy Prodan, the minister of Energy and Coal Industry; and Andrew Kobolev, the head of Naftogaz, Ukraine’s largest oil and gas company.
