Yekaterinburg public meeting to tackle White Tower upkeep

Russia’s Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development (UBRD) has scheduled a meeting in Yekaterinburg to discuss who is to be held accountable for Russia’s historical monuments: government, businesses or citizens.

The UBRD’s main project in question is the White Tower. A public debate concerning the White Tower is scheduled for Wednesday. Just as UBRD supported the Podelniki project’s land measurements, it also supports the conservation of the White Tower.

"We should remember and honor their roots,” Semen Selivanov, head of public relations for UBRD, said about the importance of history. “This is possible only in one case -- if we take care of the history and culture that have become stronger in this native region. Because UBRD considers its duty to participate in a project to conserve the White Tower.”

Russian architects and authorities expected to attend the meeting include Alex Glazyrin, moderator; Podelniki Pauline Zinoviev, curator and architect; Selivanov; Yevgeny Roizman, mayor of Yekaterinburg; businessman Igor Chernogolovka; businessman Vyacheslav Borozvsky; and architects Nikita Demidov and Edward Kubensky, among others.
