Yekaterinburg to replace metal trash cans with dual waste containers

The city of Yekaterinburg will soon replace its metal garbage containers located along the city streets with plastic bins designed for dual waste collection.

The decision was a result of a meeting between Eugene Lipovich, the deputy head of beautification, transport and environment for the administration of Yekaterinburg; Sergei Arkhipov, the chairman of the Committee on Ecology and Nature; and Yefim Kotlyar, the director of Spetsavtobaza, Ekburg.ru reports.

The 830 new containers will come in different colors, representing the different types of garbage they are intended for. An orange container will collect paper, plastic, glass and metal waste. Green is intended for food waste. The containers will also have plaques on them which will convey the information as well.

The parties also discussed how to create mechanisms that will further advance waste collection in the future, according to Ekburg.ru.
