Author Svetlana Aleksievich nominated for 2014 Nobel Prize

Ural Federal University recently selected Belorussian writer Svetlana Alexievich, author of "The Unwomanly Face of War" and "Voices from Chernobyl," as a candidate to receive the 2014 Nobel Prize in literature.

The Nobel Committee of the Swedish Academy invited members from the Russian literary community, including representatives form UrFU, to participate in the choosing of candidates for the prize.

Aleksievich's writing displays large-scale disasters of the twentieth century using private human history to create a portrait of time. Other works include "The Boys of Zinc" and "Second-hand Time."
