Sverdlovsk natives Lipnitskaya and Kovtun to compete in Budapest European Championships

Sverdlovsk region natives Julia Lipnitskaya and Maxim Kovtun will arrived in Hungary on Wednesday to compete in the Budapest European Championships in figure skating.

If Lipnitskaya and Kovtun emerge from the championships as victors, they will be positioned as likely candidates for a spot in the Russian figure skating Olympic team, Oblastnaya Gazeta reports.

Lipnitskaya will be compete during the open women's competition, followed by the official opening of the Budapest European Championships in which Kovtun will compete later in the day.

Kovtun will take on other male Olympic hopefuls including Javier Fernandez of Spain, Florent Amodio of France and Tomas Verner of the Czech Republic, according to Oblastnaya Gazeta.
