CSKA defeats Spartak Moscow 1-0

Last Saturday, CSKA Moscow defeated Spartak Moscow 1-0 during their match at Arena Khimki, coming in just three points short of Zenit St. Petersburg's lead in the Russian Premier League.

"On the whole our game was good, we had most of the chances, we were the team that looked more likely to score," CSKA coach Loenid Slutysky said in a television interview following the game, according to R-Sport. "We beat a very good team today."

CSKA, which is partly owned by Uzbek businessman Iskander Makhmudov, scored its game-winning goal during the first eight minutes of play, when Artem Rebrov assisted Seydou Doumbia in guiding the ball to Spartak's unattended net.

"Everything went fine," Spartak coach Valery Karpin said, R-Sport reports. "We just let in a goal when we shouldn't have."
