Nobel laureate Zhores Alferov to give speech at UrFU's physics department

Nobel laureate Zhores Alferov is scheduled to give a lecture to students and faculty of Ural Federal University's Institute of Metal Physics today.

The lecture held in the institute's auditorium was labeled "Disruptive Technologies of the Second Half of the Twentieth Century and Contemporary Role."

Alferov, who is currently the vice president of the Russian Academy of Sciences' Ural branch, is the only living Russian Nobel prize laureate. He received the prize in physics in 2000 for his work in developing semiconductor heterostructures and creating optoelectronic and microelectronic components.

Alferov has been credited for his major contributions to the field of computer sciences during the Soviet era.
