UMMC falls to Spartak in Russian Championship quarterfinal

UMMC lost to Spartak in the Russia's regular championships 80-76.

The match did not have any consequences for UMMC in terms of the tournament because it was impossible for any team to move from its current position.

Spartak, however, needed to win the final match in order to keep the second line of the draw and get more convenient opponents in the play-offs.

The game was back-and-forth throughout and several tactical fouls and beautiful moments in the last minute made for a climactic ending. UMMC lost but was still able to win over the loyalty of its fans.

UMMC Head Coach Olaf Lange said that he didn't like how the team was playing with rebounds. He also acknowledged that it was difficult to change focus from EuroLeague Final Eight to the Championship of Russia. He said he would do his best to gather strength, though was unsure if the injury sustained by Candace Parker is a serious one.

UMMC will meet Spartak from Noginsk in the quarterfinal series of games. They will play three games in the series, the first of which will take place in Noginsk on April 5. The second game will be on April 8 in Yekaterinburg.
