USUE Rector Mikhail Fedorov named president of university development group

Ural State Economic University Rector Mikhail Fedorov was unanimously elected as the president of the University League of Collective Security Treaty Organization--or CSTO, a group he and representatives from 25 international educational institutions formed last week.

The CSTO was formed in an effort to consolidate intellectual forces and coordinate educational needs for its university members, which include institutions from Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Armenia and Belarus.

The group's goal is to provide scientific and methodological support for the development of the Eurasian community in the academic disciplines of economics, science, technology, philosophy and law.

"The new union of universities will be created within the CSTO will focus on collective security," Fedorov said at his confirmation as the league's president. "Each institution will be organized at one of the universities, which will be responsible parent coordinator in their direction-- economic, financial food, transport, energy, information and resource security."

According to the bylaws of the CSTO, Fedorov will work closely with Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha, who leads the CSTO's Supreme Council in steering the activities of the organization.

"If any institution outside the CSTO would be willing to participate in the league, we will find different forms of interaction and its integration into our work," Bordyuzha said.
