Arcadia Belyavsky, the minister of health of the Sverdlovsk Region, received the prestigious Blue Bird award
Sunday at the end of the XVII Congress of Pediatricians of Russia in Moscow.
The Blue Bird award was created by a charity for people with disabilities and rare diseases. It is awarded to individuals who have contributed in a significant way to improve the care of people with rare diseases. Belyavsky won the award for his outstanding service as minister and for his work with individuals who have rare diseases.
Belyavsky helped the Sverdlovsk region become one of the first regions within Russia to have a target program dedicated to providing drugs for citizens with rare diseases, including life-threatening, chronic progressive illnesses. The program uses various documents to guarantee the patients receive drug therapy for their rare diseases in a timely manner.
Russia as a whole and health professionals specifically are grateful for the dedication of health care workers who contribute to easing the lives of individuals with rare diseases.
