Sverdlovsk project honored at Russia's first urban contest

The Sverdlovsk region's project "Academic" was recognized as one of the best projects last week at Russia’s first urban competition.

A total of 179 projects were submitted in the competition, and only 41 reached the final round.

Judges said "Academic" was the project with the best implementation plan for building low-rise construction objects.

"Academic" won final positions in two categories: best implemented energy-efficiency projects in the construction of economy-class housing and the best integrated development projects.

In addition, the Sverdlovsk region was recognized as one of the regions with the most projects to reach the final round; there were two other winning projects that originated in the Sverdlovsk region.

The competition's finalists will be awarded with a feature naming them as the winners in a catalog that describes the best urban planning practices in Russia.

The Ministry of Construction and Housing and Utilities of Russia organized the competition.
