Checkers players who participated in a weeklong competition gathered for an awards ceremony Feb. 8 at the House of Culture at Ural State University of Economics in Yekaterinburg.
The competition drew approximately 70 checkers players from many different regions of Russia. Players competed in three categories: lighting, fast and classic checkers.
Players competed in six groups. The youngest competitor was 8 years old.
The contest included both the Ural Federal District Championships for men and the Urals Federal District Championship for young boys and girls.
After the awards ceremony, there was a surprise performance by creative groups from the university. There was also cake, which was a collective gift from the university.
The players are anticipating next year’s checkers competition.
