Sverdlovsk region, Federal Forestry Agency agree to cooperate

The government of the Sverdlovsk region and the Federal Forestry Agency recently signed a cooperation agreement.

The agreement will improve the efficiency of the region’s use and management of its natural resources.

As part of the agreement, the Federal Forestry Agency will provide the Middle Urals with advice and assistance about its organizational and methodical dilemmas concerning forestation. The agency also will offer guidelines for requests requiring legal expertise. Agency officials will draft conditions about introducing new technologies to increase state forest management efficiency and forest sustainability.

The agreement also requires the Sverdlovsk region to achieve the state’s target program for Development of Forestry for Russia between 2013 and 2020. This target program requires the region to enforce reforestation and safety measures as well as prevent illegal timber trade and logging.

Eugene Kuyvashev, governor of the Sverdlovsk region; Ivan Valentik, the head of the Federal Forestry Agency; the deputy minister of Natural Resources; and the minister of the Environment all signed the agreement.
