UrFU hosts energy event

Ural Federal University and its Urals Energy Institute recently hosted an event to show off new developments in energy-saving technology.

The presentations and exhibits were geared toward enhancing resource conservation and energy efficiency.

Paul Bortnikov and Mikahil Molchanov, students from the institute, displayed a current project for frequency converters and control algorithms.

This new project unleashed students’ scientific creativity as they used an algorithm generator to find the most effective means of saving energy in urban transport.

Professor Constantine Aronson and graduate student Ilya Murmansk also shared their discovery of a way to modernize steam turbines by changing their old injectors, significantly saving energy resources.

The project won first place at Yekaterinburg’s EnergoPromEkspo2014 and is under contract at Ural Turbine Plant.

Organizers used this opportunity to recognize teachers and students for their various services to both the university and to science as a whole.

Organizers hope the event, held in conjunction with the Day of Energy, will attract students to educational programs and careers in science and energy-saving industries.
