Performance artists face off in Gazprom's Torch competition

Gazprom formally recognized the best competitors at the most recent Torch event in Khanty-Mansiysk.

The Torch event was part of the corporate VI festival for amateur arts performers. Competitors came from all over Gazprom’s 18 subsidiaries, including Yekaterinburg, Nadym, Surgut, Tomsk, Urengoy, Ukhta and Yamburg, among others.

For a week, performers competed for the Torch, the event's top award. The Gazprom organizers made an entirely new lineup of contestants, 143 competitors in total. Performances ranged from vocal to instrumental, from ballroom waltzes to folk dancing, from pop to jazz. Competitors were assigned to three age groups. The youngest group was ages 5-10, the middle group was 11-16 and the third group consisted of ages 17 and older.

The jury consisted of select artists, teachers and honorary culturists.

The jury chose Chelyabinsk Anastasia Klimkovoy and Herman Savchuk as the first place winners of the ballroom category.

Dancer Xenia Kalmikova won a two-degree diploma in the jazz solo category.

The musical group Romantic Show took second place with its singing in the pop vocal section.

Adult contestants in Joy, a vocal ensemble, won third place in the Ural vocalists and dancers category.

The jury awarded a special prize to a children’s group from Nevyansk called Rainbow.

Other top competitors included Freckles, a folk dance ensemble; Alphabet, a vocal group; Spring, a ballroom dancing ensemble; and Kurazh-Ballet company, a modern dance group.
