Two Sverdlovsk projects win at Moscow festival

Two Middle Urals NCO social projects in the Sverdlovsk region won first place at a recent All-Russian Festival in Moscow.

The theme of the festival was “Protection of Social Rights: A Partnership of Government and Society.” It focused on recent developments in such social areas as public institutions, non-governmental organizations and businesses.

Yekaterinburg’s representatives won first place in the Improving Moral of the Citizens division for the DAR program.

Since 2009, the program has provided an animation studio geared toward rehabilitating children in medical or social institutions. Participants create cartoons under the guidance of instructors. After the drawing is completed, the instructors and the children address dilemmas involving socialization, adaptation, therapy and developing creativity.

Another first place award was given to Power, a rehabilitation center, for its work in the Social Support and Protection of Citizens category. The center specializes in re-introducing homeless individuals into society. Whether the individuals are single, disabled or recently released from prison, the center offers a home for 50 to 80 people.

Irina Zakirova and City TehnoTvorchestva won second place for Quality and Affordable Education. The festival helps to educate youth in the science and technology industries.
