Sverdlovsk region 13-year-old wins international chess tournament

Hailing from Upper Pyshma, Timur Fakhrutdinov, 13, took home first place at the Junior European Chess Championships in Batumi, Georgia, the press service reported Tuesday.
The tournament featured children under 14 years of age from throughout Europe. Having a continental championship in rapid chess from 2013 under his belt, Fakkhrutdinov is quickly becoming a rising star in the world of competitive chess.
Fakhrutdinov took six wins and three draws over nine rounds and gained a score of 7.5 out of 9.
Chess Federation of the Sverdlovsk Region President Igor Blackheads said the region is producing stronger players as a result of this year's competitive results.
